My friend did this on her blog, and I thought it was a fun idea...I will give it a try.

5:30am I hear Benny crying through the monitor. I get out of bed and head upstairs to Grandma's den to feed him. He chows down and in 10 minutes is done. I lay him back in his bed, he passes out and I head back to bed.

8am I finally wake up. I lay in bed realizing that I need to get up and feed the baby again if I am to keep him on any sort of schedule. I reminisce for a moment about the days when I could sleep in.

8:05am I finally pull myself out of bed, put my greasy hair in a pony tail and say my prayers. My morning prayer is definitely not the most meaningful. It takes some time for me to wake up. I grab my phone and head upstairs.

8:10am I wake Bennett and feed him. He only will eat on one side. I am not surprised since it has only been 3 hours since his last feed. He is so happy and smiley in the morning. It is definitely my favorite time with him. Sometimes I want to hog it all for myself and feel gipped when the kids come in to enjoy it too. What a selfish mom I am :). I flip the tv on and watch HGTV. I love it especially since we are getting ready to buy a house. I love to look through houses and see what people choose.

8:20-8:30am I enjoy Bennett while finishing the episode. He is such a happy baby.

8:30am Change Bennett's diaper. I realize that he spit up during the night. I strip his sheet, grab his sleeping bag and the bibs in the room and head out. I lay him down and head to wash some clothes. The washer was running and I find out that Douglas had put some of the kids muddy clothes in. He just set it on "Extra Rinse" which was actually the end of a wash cycle. I chuckled to myself. So nice of him to try, but the clothes is full of soap and need to be washed now. Throw in a load and take clothes out of the dryer to be folded.

8:50-10am. I cook myself breakfast. Douglas and I are doing Weight Watchers so I am very deliberate about my breakfast which included:
1/2 cup Egg beaters, scrambled
1 slice 2% cheese
1 light English muffin
2 slices thin bacon
1/2 cup orange juice

I feel very satisfied.

Fold some laundry. Play with Bennett. Make his bed with spare sheet and put him down for a nap. He is tired and doesn't even fuss. He is becoming a good napper. Such an answer to prayers.

10:04am Head out for a run. Running means I can eat more. I guess whatever it takes to feel motivated, right? I run for 40 minutes. It is so nice to feel myself getting strong again. It is so wonderful to run outside.

10:45am Walk in Grandma's and it is SO hot inside! I grab a glass of water and go to stand on the porch. Cool off a bit and head to the shower. It is hair washing day. I do not like having to wash and style my hair. Too bad I forgot my round brush so styling my hair is really not a possibility. I decide to let it mainly air dry and pull it back in a pony. Benny always pulls on it when it is down and I don't like that!

11:30am Start to get lunch ready and hear the baby. Get him up, change his diaper and head back to eat. He wants to eat too. I feed him and watch a little more HGTV. I run down to dry my hair just a smidge. When I come up P is headed to the potty. Oh man, it will take forever before we can head to Anne's now. She takes so long.

12pm Still waiting. I go and tell her she has to be done. Sometimes she just screws around. I go in and notice that she has gotten into mischief. I am not happy with her. I ban her from using the pretty bathroom any more. Why?

12:15-1pm Head to Anne's and chat for a while. Just like old times.

1:15pm Benny is so tired. I lay him down and he is all too happy to go to sleep. Fusses for a minute and passes out.

1:30pm Make a hair appointment. Have some hummus and veges with Paige. Color with Paige. I draw a mean mermaid and brick house. At least this is what the kids tell me. I lay down for a bit, read a little and be lazy. I am tired.

3:30pm Bennett wakes. I feed him. He is happy. I change his diaper and pack him up to go to Target.

4:00pm Target. I find the few things we need. I am making White Chicken Chili for dinner so I buy a few things for that. Jackson needs some new shoelaces and I need sunglasses since I forgot mine. I pick up a shirt to buy and then put it back. I don't need it right now.

5:00pm I run into Lins for a few more things. Bennett is so good. I notice that he grabbed his rattle. This makes me happy as I have been worried that he isn't grabbing at things. He is always so content just laying on the ground looking around. I guess I should be grateful.

5:45pm Get home. I hurry and put Benny down for a short nap. I get started on dinner. It comes together quickly. I wash Paige's hair in the bath. I hear the baby when I come up. I get him up. I hand him to Douglas so I can finish up the last few things for dinner. Bennett is clearly ready to go to bed. I bathe, dress and feed him. Benny goes down for the night around 6:45pm. I head out to join the meal. The soup is really good and low in points. Win win. We also have strawberries and bananas.

7-8:15pm I watch Millionaire with Grandma and we have a casual family night. Jackson loves game shows so he is thrilled to get to watch. We read scriptures and Douglas finished up with reading and putting the kids to bed.

8-9pm Game shows.

9pm Douglas and I go to Golden Spoon for a treat. Grandma wants one too. She eats well when we are here and that makes me feel good.

10:10pm Finish typing about my day. That took longer than I thought. I am too wordy.

Bennett's Blessing

Bennett was blessed by his dad on February 4th, 2011. I will write more about the actual blessing in another post...I need to find the notes my mom in law took for me because I don't remember things these days!! It was a nice blessing. George and DeEtte came from Georgia and our friends Jimmy and Sham Young, Elizabeth and Chad Shobe and Liz and Reed Hansen came for the blessing. In the circle were Douglas, George, Jimmy, Chad, Reed, Chris Andersen, Darrel Sontag and Bishop Max Madsen. Douglas always give such eloquent blessings. Bennett was quiet as can be and look so incredibly cute. I love that little guy. He has brought so much joy into this house. I won't wish him to grow any faster, but I can say that I am excited to see who he becomes! We love you Benny!

Today is Jackson's birthday. I can't believe he is 7 years old. It seems like just yesterday we were heading to hospital to have him. He is such a good boy. I am so lucky he is my son! He woke up ready to open gifts! Douglas and I gave him a video game (his request) and some art supplies. My parents gave him a drawing tablet to use with his video game machine. It allows him to draw on it and play games like Pictionary which will be fun to do as a family. One of the things that I found for him is a sticker mosaic. It is a picture with a bunch of little numbered squares. Each square signifies a specific color sticker. All the stickers are about 1/4 inch square, so they are small. Once you get them all put on, it forms the picture. Jackson started one, but Paige has really been enjoying them :)!

Jackson requested Crepes for breakfast. He wanted them filled with Nutella (hazelnut spread), bananas and whip cream. They are delicious. I was so proud of myself for only eating one. Sometimes I have to remind myself that it isn't the last time I will ever eat and that I will get a chance to have something delicious again. Seems silly, but it works, when I do it. I am really trying to eat better. This week was kind of a mess with Valentine's Day, hostessing a baby shower and Jackson's birthday, but I am trying not to let it discourage me. I can't go back and be better now, I just have to move forward. I know how to keep myself eating healthy...don't have junk food around! I am the same way with spending money. If I don't want to spend, I can't go shopping. I don't have a whole lot of will power when the temptation is right before me! I wish I did, but I know myself and that is now how I am.

I have been so discouraged with losing weight. My body just seems to hold on to it for dear life while I am nursing. I think I whined about this previously, but it is constantly on my mind, mainly because I can't fit into any of my clothing. I think I am going to start a "modified" Weight Watchers. I am going to track my points, but not be quite as rigid as the actual plan. I just need to be heading in the right direction. I am getting Douglas on board too because he needs to lose some weight before he starts working. And, it is so much easier when as a household we are eating healthy together. A lot of the responsibility falls on me since I shop and prepare the meals.

Wow, I got way off topic. I was talking about Jackson's birthday....He has been having a great time playing his games and not having to do his chores. Who wants to do chores on their birthday! He requested Five Guys burgers for lunch, so we will head over there. He has been dying for a bacon burger. I love to make birthdays special for people. We went and it was so delicious! There is nothing like a good burger once and a while. We should take you to Five Guys when we come to St. George. I think you would really enjoy it...or we can pick it up and bring it home for dinner!

Well, the day passed and here I sit Sunday afternoon. I am making Jackson write thank you cards for his birthday gifts. You would think I was asking him to cut off his own leg. He has whined and complained about doing it. He is still whining as we speak. I make him write neatly which is another battle to fight. He wants to just scribble something and spell all the words wrong and have it be okay. Arg! He can be such a stinker!

Jackson's birthday turned out very fun for him. He has been wanting a Chuck e Cheese party forever so we decided that he could invite a few friends and we would do it. He had five friend plus Paige. They set up a party spot with tablecloth, plates, cups etc. The kids all get 20 tokens to go and play games. After about 45 minutes they served pizza and then had Chuck-e come out to sing happy birthday, have cake, sing and go in the ticket blaster. I think the ticket blaster was the highlight for Jackson. You go in this booth that blows tickets all around. The birthday kid grabs as many as possible. They have one ticket in there that is worth 1000 tickets. Jackson got it! He was beyond excited. Too bad they only have junk toys for which to redeem tickets. I had made a yellow cake with chocolate frosting for the party. The kids gobbled it up. That is always a nice thing!

Douglas had a class all weekend so unfortunately he was gone most of the day. We picked him up on the way to the party. I will be very happy for him to no longer have school activities on the weekends and evenings. It gets very tiring.

Did I mention that I got called to teach Relief Society? Today was my first day and I taught lesson 4 in the George Albert Smith manual about the prophet Joseph Smith. I thought it went really well. It is always hard to know, but I felt the Spirit and I guess that is what really matters.

So, I have been having issues with Bennett and sleep. He was waking up to 6 times a night, whenever his pacifier would fall out. He didn't know how to go back to sleep without it. I felt like a walking zombie. I had been praying to know what to do and kept having the impression that I needed to stop letting him sleep with the pacifier. I ignored it though because it seemed way too hard and I assumed that it would mean a lot of sleepless nights. Well, finally I was at the end of my rope and just committed to do it. Guess what?? He has been sleeping like a champ ever since. I went in on the first night and he had found his little thumb and was sucking away. So, the past two nights he has slept great. He even took two long naps yesterday which he has NEVER done. Man, I am filled with so much hope that he will become a great sleeper after all. He is such a happy, contented baby. Since we got home from St. George I feel like he has really settled into his little personality. Now, being well rested, I hope he will be even happier. I love well sleeping babies for my sake, but also because I know how good it is for them. So, even though it has only been two days, I am very hopeful.

I forgot that the missionaries were coming for dinner. Blast. Douglas reminded me last night, but I had really hoped for a lazy Sunday and easy meals. Oh well. I threw some chili together. I will make some biscuits and roasted cauliflower. I just have left over cake for dessert and that will have to do. I love to cook when I am in the mood, but when I am not, it is really no fun.

On Thursday I helped a girl in the ward hostess a baby shower over here. It was a bow making shower for the girl who is having a girl. We had some food and everyone spent the time making bows for the new baby. It was fun. I am reminded that people's crafting abilities are not the same. We all have our own strengths and that is not some people's strength :)!! Some of the bows the women made were so hideous. Is that mean to say?? Haha. It is true though. It is still kind of them to try.

We have been looking through potential homes recently. The realtor that is going to help us find a house in St. Louis sends us new listings. It is so fun and exciting to look through them. It gets me so excited to finish up here and move on to St. Louis! I just want to stay put for a bit! Douglas, Bennett and I will go out there in April to hopefully find something. There is one I have seen online and I am so hoping it is still available when we go. It seems like it would be a really great fit.

Well, I need to focus on dinner. I am so excited too for Downton Abbey tonight. Douglas and I are loving it!!

It's almost 9:30pm. Hopefully Douglas will be home soon. This is the third night in a row that he has had late things going on and I am sorta sick of it. He will have two night classes (until 9:30pm) back to back next term, so I better get used to it.

I have been so tired the last few days. I would go to bed right now, but I will need to feed the baby in about an hour and so I wait...I have been surfing the web with no particular destination, just the goal not to think.

I have been playing Words with Friends which is sort of like scrabble, but online. My brain hurts from thinking of words and fitting them into spaces on the board. I am so competitive that I can't just go with the easy word I think of right away. I have to try out every possible option. My brain hurts.

Paige is loving her dance class. It is combo tap and ballet. She is actually quite coordinated. She loves it so much and it is cute to see her take it all so seriously. There is no messing around for her. She puts her heart and soul into the class. Jackson gets to play his DS the whole time. He puts his heart and soul into that too.

I cut Benny off with night feedings last night. He still woke at 5am, I gave him his pacifier and he slept till 6am. I gave it to him again and I had to wake him at 7:30am. This may be the beginning of a good thing. Certainly with his size he doesn't need to be eating during the night. I take him in next Tuesday. I can't wait to see how he has grown. He has become such a squirrley eater and it is such a chore to nurse him sometimes. Not to mention, inconvenient since his afternoon feeding falls right between Paige's preschool and picking Jackson up from school. I get to nurse him in the car which isn't very fun. If I try to do it at home, though, I will be late to get J from school.

Our Realtor in Saint Louis has started sending us home listings. It is fun to look and imagine. It will be here before I know it. That is one thing I know about life. Things seem so far away and then all of a sudden they are upon you.

I am photographing twins tomorrow and I am really nervous. This is my first, real, newborn session since we moved here... two babies and in the evening. I am very nervous about it. I still go back and forth about what to do with my business when we move. Part of me loves it and part of me doesn't want to deal with it. I am hoping to find a home with a good place to set up a studio. That will make it much easier. The money will definitely be helpful so for that reason I imagine I will still do it.

Sometimes I wonder how much money a person has to make before you feel like you have "extra" or money to spare. Don't get me wrong, Douglas has a great job and will make good money but after you pay bills, savings, retirement, tithing, mortgage, clothing kids, kids activities, insurance, student loans etc. there won't be much to spare. I am just excited to be going toward the positive end of things. This semester has and is VERY tight financially. I admit that I should have budgeted better in the semesters past, but it is what it is (my kids use that phrase on me all the time now...I guess I say it a lot). I am proud of myself though. I have really been frugal the past month and a half and after a lot of fasting and praying (on Douglas' part...I'm nursing), I have already scheduled three photo sessions with two or three more possible before the semester ends. That was a major answer to prayers.

Then we had to replace our tires and brakes. Haha!! Isn't that always how it goes?

Douglas was telling me that Jackson's teacher was telling him that she references Jackson often in her PhD writings (she is currently working on a PhD). She references him for good reasons (thankfully) and mainly because he understands how to learn so well. Now, I don't want to be one of "those" moms that thinks there kid is a genius, but Jackson really is a very bright kid. I get to help in his class on occasion and I am always amazed by him. He comes to work on whatever they are doing and has it done, with no help, in a matter of minutes (or less than a minute). All the other kids, even the bright ones, need help and guidance. Mrs. Seals tells me that he remembers everything and has an answer for everything that is usually correct (where in the world does that trait come from ;)) There you go...bragging about my kid. He really is a smart cookie.

Benny has started laughing. Cutest. think. ever. How did I forget how cute it is?? He lights up all of our lives. The kids adore him. I adore him. I love how I will wake him in the morning and once he has stretched his little arms his little mouth curls into a huge smile. Melt my heart.

Jackson has started having night terrors again. We went a few years without, but since he had his stomach bug last month, he has waken up every night with one. So frustrating.

I am loving the TV show Downton Abbey. Douglas and I are watching together and having such a fun time talking about it after. Such a great show.

Well, Douglas is home and I guess I will be responsible and fold some laundry before bed. Sounds boring.

Oh, and one more thing, I am working so very hard to eat better and have actually been doing well. I just hope it shows when I step on the scale. I still fit into none of my pre-pregnancy clothing. I have been running as much as I can as well. I haven't baked all week and limit any sweet that I might eat after dinner. I greatly dislike trying to lose weight!

Sunday, February 05, 2012

I told Douglas the other day that I was making a goal for myself to go to bed earlier. I then followed that with a comment something like, "but I don't think I will actually be able to do it." I know that seems like a bad way to start out a goal, but what I think is good about it (and this is me being optimistic) is that I still try and set these goals, over and over and over again. I guess I can say I am not a quitter.

So, here are a few of my goals this year...

Read more books-I already have two waiting to be finished.

Send birthday cards-This was a goal last year. I never sent a single card.

Update my blog more-I still want to do it everyday. Sometimes I am just soooo tired and I don't want to. I will try to do better.

Try all the recipes in my Our Best Bites cookbook-That is just a fun goal for me.

Work on my off camera lighting-I have wanted to do this for a long time. I lack motivation sometimes, but I really wanting to do something to challenge myself with regards to my photography.

Lose the baby weight. I said I wasn't going to set this as a goal, but I changed my mind. I really need to focus on losing some weight, even if I don't lose it all quickly. Douglas committed to losing weight with me, so that will really help. I just need to fit in some of my clothing again.

Prepare to run a half marathon. I NEVER thought I would say this, but I have grown to really tolerate running this past year. I can't say I love it, but I have gotten better at it and want to set a goal so that I improve. I don't know if the marathon will make it into this year, but once we are in St. Louis, I am going to find one to sign up for.

Scripture study. I am just not great at it anymore. I enjoy it so much when I do it, but this doesn't motivate me to just do it the next day. I was called to teach relief society and we were asked to speak in church on Easter Sunday so I have plenty of reasons to study and prepare.
